Workshop on Quantum Key Distribution

Day 1 Basic optical and electronic components for a quantum system

  • Single-photon detector, etc., will be discussed
Day 2 Basic quantum mechanics

  • Superposition
  • Entanglement
  • Bracket notation
  • Born rule modulus square

  • Density matrix
Day 3 Introduction to Python

  • NumPy
  • Pandas
  • Matplotlib
  • Basics needed for quantum simulation
Day 4 How to produce and test single photons?

  • Production of quantum correlated and entangled photons
  • Discussion of spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) – I
Day 5 How to produce and test single photons?

  • Production of quantum correlated and entangled photons
  • Discussion of spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) – II
Day 6 Experimental demonstration of quantum correlated photons

  • Experimentally demonstrating the SPDC process
  • Showing the entangled photons in a camera
  • Fidelity parameters such as visibility and entanglement brightness will be discussed
Day 7 Introduction to quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols and BB84 protocol

  • Briefly explaining the need for QKD and
  • A complete explanation of BB84 protocol
Day 8 A discussion of Entanglement based quantum cryptography

  • Ekert91 QKD protocol
Day 9 Simulation of E91 protocol

  • The simulation will make use of basic quantum properties and show the quantum system violates Bell’s inequality parameter called S-parameter
Day 10 Experimental demonstration of Ekert91 protocol

 

RESOURCE PERSON

Mr. Hashir Kuniyil

Hashir Kuniyil is a senior PhD researcher at Electrical and Electronics Engineering in Ozyegin University istanbul Turkey. He obtained MSC Photonics from Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT Manipal). His PhD work is towards the implementation of super resolution and high SNR quantum imaging systems. Mr. Kuniyil is also working in The Scientific and Technological Research institution Turkey’s project that implements the first quantum key distribution network in the country. He is a contract based trainer and mentor at Qubitrium inc, Istanbul.
